Planetary Health Report Card

The Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) is an advocacy tool developed by students to inspire institutional change.

Founded in 2019, the Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) is a national initiative inspired by the White Coats for Black Lives Racial Justice Report Card enabling health professional students to evaluate their institutions’ commitment to planetary health and sustainability. These findings allow institutions to identify gaps in their planetary health engagement and act on it. The first Warren Alpert Medical School PHRC was completed by students in 2021 and identified two main areas of improvement: planetary health curriculum and community outreach focused on environmental health impacts.

As a result of this PHRC, the Planetary Health Task Force was created with the goal of addressing these gaps. Additionally, the Planetary Health Integration Committee was formed with the goal of leading longitudinal Planetary Health integration into the medical curriculum. Since then, yearly PHRCs have been conducted by the AMS Environmental Coalition (AMS ECO) student interest group with the goal of continuously assessing our institution’s progress.
